Intro

Hell, The Underworld, Hades, Yomi, no matter what you call it seems like everyone’s ended up here. No one has any memory of their life before, if such a thing even exists. But one thing rings true, none of you want to stick around.

Heaven / Hell, otherwise known as 2H, is a competitive 1 VS 1 tabletop game set in the underworld. It’s meant to recreate the systems and strategies created by traditional fighting video games, allowing you to mix and mach a number of recognizable fighting game archetypes and optional rules to play your dream fighter through the medium of pen and paper.

Heya! Been having fun with this with a friend though we are still quite new to the system as a whole, and so I did come up with question:
When it says "can activate first" on pg.12 for Reveal Phase, does this mean the fighter with more hope may let the other fighter do their thing first and then proceed with their own if it would be advantageous for them, i.e. the opponent is creating distance while the more hopeful fighter's technique would close distance on reveal, making it advantageous to move second? This is more explicitly stated for Void Phase and Utility techniques, but I would like to make sure if it applies here too.

Would be nice to know if so, as it would make my life with Flagellant/Juggernaut against an Illusionist somewhat more tolerable. It was annoying to keep whiffing grabs because Crimson Claw pulled first and then the bugger Grim Reflectioned to another zip code.

Now that I think of it, is it intentional to have multiple Overpower tags on a move or is my Grasping Hot-Blooded Reversal breaking something? I've seen many other things that grant Overpower X remove Overpower Y, but that didn't seem to be the case with the Grasping specialisation.

Oh, and to not just be asking for rules clarifications, seems the Discord invite in the Socials is broken. I thought about going there first, but had no luck.

Yes that option does apply to reveal phase.

No you're not missing anything from grasping.

And sorry about the link! I'll try to fix that.

Love this game. Running an 8 man tournament bracket with this system today.

Oh that's sick!

I bought this a few months ago and I really enjoy it, but why does it keep repeating Bastard (Hope Drain) on the Table of Contents section? Was this a typo or am I not getting something?

Oh lord I didn't realize that's still there

It's cuz under all the first pages that's under it due to copy paste stuff

I just bought this and noticed on page 7 under markers that the final sentence isnt finished.

Oh you're right! Let me upload a fix for that really quick.

You should be able to download now with the fix.

Hi,I thought it'd be a good idea to ask for clarification about the two paragraphs in the Action Phase section in page 13 of v1.8.

First off:

"Then comes the Action Phase. In this Phase the player’s techniques are resolved. However, the player who gets to do so first is decided by the kinds of Techniques they chose."

I assume that this applies to only if both players select the same kind of technique between defense or utility and do not otherwise void each other, since if both parties attack, the attacker with higher hope voids their opponent. And the only other time both parties have to determine action order is if one side would lose the rock-paper-scissors game but also has Armored or Overpower against their opponent's technique type.

In all other cases,it's not a matter of "who goes first" but "who goes at all" since one technique will inevitably void the other.

Is that correct?

Secondly:

"At this point characters may be able to resolve an additional Technique through the effects of Tags like Combo or Link. If they do so they should run through each phase before this again with their new Technique."

Do both parties get "each phase" again,or is it just the successfully resolved attacker? Does the hit opponent get any chance to "mash out" of a combo,or does it just come down to the attacker continuing to reveal and resolve techniques of decreasing values of Combo [X] until they can't anymore?

Your judgments for your first point were all correct.

It is only the attacker who repeats phases.

Efficient Shots' resolution says "If you Revealed 1 Token you gain another copy of it."
Does this refer to the attack or the token?

This refers to the Token, but it's unclear, so I may update the text now that you've brought it up.

I'm a bit confused by Combo-

How does using Combo techniques work within the turn rules? Does it create another  Action phase?

Does stuff that triggers in the Reveal phase (like On Reveal triggers, getting Voided by Range, etc.) not trigger if there's no Reveal phase (ex. if one player has Broken and it's the Break Phase)?

Each combo does trigger another Action phase and resolves the entire Technique, reveal effects and all.

This game looks awesome! Haven't played it yet but I would love to see a supplement with more archetypes to it as well, like a DLC, so sick!

(+1)

Thanks! I've been stewing on the idea of more Archetypes for a bit now, but some other updates are taking priority. Stick around and I might release some!

I have a clarification question: for the Dodge universal technique, I don't understand what benefit the invincible tag gives it. From what I understand, the invisible tag serves the same function as a defense card does, in voiding attack cards. Am I missing something? Because the way I see it, Dodge is very unsafe with the only upside being creating 1 distance.

(Also, this game is very cool and I'm gonna try and run a oneshot irl sometime soon)

It makes it unblockable attacks, Dodge is your last resort against powerful unblockables, especially when they're specialized.

*Beat unblockable attacks.

Ohhhh right that makes sense, tyty

Your welcome!

This game kicks so much ass. It's managed to capture what I love about fighting games with really tightly designed mechanics. All of my friends are going to be forced to play this game as ponies.

I'm glad you enjoy! And I hope you enjoy playing them's fighting herds lol.
