Carve your path through the aged streets of Tibil, the last settlement on a time-lost earth. In an era long past humanity’s destined demise, enduring through black technology and the mysteries that lie within.

Star & City is a table-top role-playing game (TTRPG) set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future, full of strange beasts known as “Paraxen”, mysterious technologies, and superpowered monster hunters

Inspired by video games like Dicey Dungeons and card games like MTG, Star & City attempts to combine the mechanically focused ideas of deck/character creation and the narratively rich TTRPG mechanics used by games like Blades In The Dark and Tenra Bansho Zero.

This is a game that has already been written, and can be read on my Discord. There are people playing it and if you're not sure if it's the right project to support you can join and check yourself.

Tibil, the last city, stands alone as the last bastion of human civilization.

Tibil is an enormous walled off city rivaling the size of the largest old world nations. Through the intervention of its leader, “Monad”, Tibil is protected from the irradiated dangers of the outside world.

And standing below the frozen sky, is you.

The Hounds:

The Hounds are not an official organization or some position of legal importance, it is the common name for Tibil’s many mercenaries.

Enhanced with an array of biological enhancements and left completely unattended, everywhere but the highest class locations of the city. Hounds exist to solve problems that fit their specialties.

The Stasis:

The sky above the city hangs frozen and unmoving. A perpetual twilight pins the stars and binds the darkened clouds in place.

Tibil seems to have been put in some strange supernatural “Stasis”. From inside the city’s borders time seems to stand still, with the blackened clouds outside sitting frozen in the sky.

The exact nature of this Stasis unknown, is the result of some old world technology, the so-called “Black Tech” the Monad has banned since Tibil’s inception? Or could the Stasis be part of some supernatural element of the city itself?

The City’s People:

Years pass meaninglessly in this city lost to time. Its people go about their lives gazing up at the long dead stars, most of them unaware of how important they really are.

Children Of The City:

Though Monad refuses to speak about it publicly, many citizens have done their own research into these strange events. This research has led to a few discoveries, that through word of mouth has become common knowledge.

1: The city’s ecosystem relies on these “Abnormalities”, as they’re the most reliable source of non-human meat in Tibil.

2: They seem to either come from humans or feed on them, with disappearances that cannot be explained in any other way seeming to happen before or after the appearance of an Abnormality.

3: Abnormalities were found a long time ago. Some fringe groups seem to be worshiping or researching them in secret.

Modes Of Play

In almost all cases within S&C you will be within one of two modes of play, Narrative, or Clash, and each of these function in different ways and rarely interact with each other.

Narrative:

In general terms, Narrative play occurs when the majority of players are not under direct threat, be it physical, emotional or otherwise, and within this mode’s rules are much looser allowing each player to use their problem-solving and abilities.

Each character can use their Egos, the emotions, biases, and experiences core to a character, to further reward and focus the actions someone chooses to take.

Clash:

In opposition to this is Clash play, where each character uses a number of abilities tied to strict rules to take out their opponent(s). Mechanics like Ante’s and Stamina are core to Clashing.

A player character is a simple brick of stats combined with a pool of abilities taken from their two classes. They can then trigger and combine these abilities using the dice rolls made before their turn to fire off a variety of unique effects designed to make every character play drastically differently from one another during the game’s tense conflicts.

Characters will use the abilities granted by their two "classes" to manipulate a pool of d6 and turn situations in their favor. With each of these abilities being designed around needing specific results or allowing you to change your dice values to better utilize your other abilities.
