STRIKE OUT!

It is the distant future. 

There is no war. 

There is no poverty or famine. 

There is only sports.

In the deepest, darkest of archives, kept in the moldering recesses of the world’s universities, there exists tales of the before times. A time without sports. An alien world, so distant from the one of the now-now that even the most well-read of sportorians struggle to think of how society could have functioned.

With the many crises of old banished far outside of living memory, humans now are creatures of leisure who spend their days competing in a variety of ever more dramatic and esoteric sports. In any era, one may take hold as the dominant cultural force, only to fall to the wayside as another game leaps to the fore.

A world without life and death struggle is still not without strife, however. Personalities still clash, greed and desire still may take hold even without currency to accrue, and the driving need to be the best grips the sports-maddened masses.
